AIDS PEI welcomes new Executive Director
The Board of Directors, staff, and volunteers of AIDS PEI are pleased to announce Mark Hanlon as the new Executive Director. Mark, originally from Newfoundland and Labrador, joined AIDS PEI on September 4, 2008. A graduate of Memorial University, Mark holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Political Science, a Certificate in Criminology, and is pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration from his alma mater in preparation for a Master of Business Administration from UPEI.
Prior to joining AIDS PEI, Mark spent 2 years as an annual giving development officer with Alumni Affairs and Development, Memorial University. In addition, Mark volunteered with the former NGALE (Newfoundland and Labrador Gays and Lesbians for Equality) as secretary, treasurer, and chair. During his time as a student at Memorial University, Mark was also employed as a Public Relations Coordinator with ANSWERS, the centre for student life at Memorial. He also volunteered as Director of External Issues at the Lesbian, Bisexual, Gay, and Transgendered Resource Room (LBGT-MUN). Mark also served as a marketing and fundraising volunteer and eventually as Director of St. John's Pride. He was also a representative on the Gay Urban Youth Zone project at the AIDS Committee of Newfoundland and Labrador and and assistant coordinator for "Outlive Homophobia", a week of awareness campaigns surrounding homophobia. Mark is also chair of the steering committee for Canadian Youth for Choice, a group supported by the Canadian Federation of Sexual Health, which educates youth about their sexual and reproductive health rights. He is also a youth representative on the Board of Directors at the Canadian Federation of Sexual Health.
Mark looks forward to helping AIDS PEI move forward in the areas of fundraising, harm reduction, and the provision of support for people living with HIV/AIDS on Prince Edward Island. He enjoys exercise, especially biking, and politics. He currently resides in Stratford.
