AIDS PEI Staff
Troy Perrot - Client Liaison and Education Coordinator
Since being diagnosed HIV+ in March of 1993, Troy has been involved with AIDS PEI as a volunteer,
three time Board Member, staff person (past acting ED), Health Educator/Personal Story Teller, and is
currently employed there as a full time staff member. He is very active in Charlottetown in various organizations,
such as Pride PEI 2004 (Co-chair), Abegweit Rainbow Collective a resource for GLBTTQ person ' s in PEI ,
as a Board Member, Dance Coordinator, GLBTTQ Youth Drop in coordinator, the PEI Homophobia Task Force and
PFLAG Advisory Committee for Safe Spaces project. His work as a Personal Story Teller and Health Educator for
AIDS PEI has seen him travel to just about every small community in PEI, spreading the message about risks, safer sex,
harm reduction, and putting a face to HIV/AIDS. It is the real work of the organization , says Troy, putting us in
touch with the public . Without this very real connection, our work here would be that much more difficult. I get a
sense of pride, and a feeling of fulfilment whenever I step into a classroom full of highschool students or an alternative
educational setting to start talking about sex. It ' s what keeps me going! Troy has also learned some very valuable
facilitation skills that he puts to use whenever he can. Troy also sits on the Board of the Canadian AIDS Society as the
Atlantic Regional Director for CAS. He looks forward to the work of the CAS Board, and it ' s committees, with joy
and a sense of adventure.
